For the replacement of a 100-year-old community based hospital in the heart of San Francisco’s Chinatown, Kai-Yee Woo & Associates created a culture based interior design using color schemes derived from the beautiful Chinese natural and semi-precious stones. Various shades simulating the colors of Jade, Agate and Amber along with soft silk-like privacy curtains with abstract patterns of willows trees were employed throughout the Hospital.

Select evidence based design successes were implemented along with patient centered design to enhance and provide a comforting hospital experience for patients, patient families and medical teams.

Understanding of the Chinese culture was the key success to this project. Carefully selected interior colors schemes and materials were closely tied to cultural references and was easily understood by owner and the Chinese community in San Francisco Chinatown.
